Shadows or the Savior?

Opening Thought

Every day we're invited to place our hope, identity, and confidence in something. Sometimes those things are obvious. Other times they look good—even spiritual. Yet Paul reminds us that anything apart from Christ is only a shadow. Real life, lasting peace, and true transformation are found in Jesus alone.

As you walk through this week, ask yourself: “Am I holding on to the shadows, or am I holding fast to the Savior?”

Today’s Scripture

“He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.”
Colossians 2:19 (NIV84)

Reflection

One of the greatest dangers in the Christian life isn't always turning away from Jesus—it's slowly allowing other things to take His place. Sometimes we begin trusting our own efforts instead of God's grace. Sometimes we look for identity in our accomplishments, acceptance from others, or security in our circumstances. Those things may promise satisfaction, but they can never produce the life only Christ gives.

This week, don't simply ask, “What more should I do?” Instead ask, “How can I stay more closely connected to Jesus today?” As we hold fast to Him, He continues the transforming work He has already begun in us.

Biblical Tension

Culture tells us that fulfillment comes from achieving more, possessing more, or becoming more. God's Word reminds us that everything we need for life, identity, and transformation is already found in Christ.

Remember...the shadows always change. Jesus never does.

Heart Check

What have I quietly begun depending on more than Jesus?

What is competing for my attention and keeping me from staying connected to Jesus?

Following Jesus This Week

Tuesday: Identify one shadow.
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one area where you've been looking to something other than Jesus for your identity, peace, security, or hope.

Wednesday - Thursday: Hold fast to Jesus.
Spend five intentional minutes each morning in prayer and God's Word, choosing to fix your eyes on Christ before the distractions of the day begin.

Friday–Saturday: Live from your new identity.
When you're tempted to prove yourself, seek approval, or measure your worth by your performance, remember that your identity is already secure in Christ. Live from His grace, not for it….and continue what you started on Wednesday & Thursday.

Closing Encouragement

Jesus never asked us to chase shadows. He invites us to walk with Him.

As you follow Him this week, remember that real peace, lasting joy, and genuine transformation are never found in substitutes—they are found in Christ alone.

Don't live in the shadows.
Hold fast to the Savior.

Remember...When Jesus is above all, He changes all.
