The Shield of Faith and the Helmet of Salvation

Opening Thoughts

Paul tells us to take up the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation. The battle is real, but God has already provided what we need to stand. Faith is not confidence in how strong my faith feels; it is confidence in the God I am trusting.

This Week’s Scriptures

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation…”
Ephesians 6:16-17a NIV

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

BELIEVE

The Shield of Faith says: “I TRUST GOD COMPLETELY.”

Faith does not mean I understand everything. It means I can place the weight of my life on God even when I do not understand what He is doing. I can say, “I don’t understand this—but I know the One I’m trusting.”

The Helmet of Salvation reminds me why I can have that confidence. Jesus has saved me from sin’s penalty, He is freeing me from sin’s power, and one day He will free me from sin’s presence.

DO - Practice Looking Like Jesus

Ask yourself today: Where is God leading me to develop deeper trust in Him through obedience?

Choose one specific area where trusting God needs to become obedience this week. Maybe it is forgiving someone, telling the truth when it would be easier not to, being generous when you are afraid there will not be enough, choosing purity, loving someone difficult, or refusing to be consumed by tomorrow.

Because I trust God, I will obey God—and trust Him with the results.

PRAY

“Jesus, show me where doubt or distrust has begun to replace faith. Help me trust You with all my heart instead of leaning on my own understanding. When I cannot see what You are doing, remind me of who You are and what You have already done for me. Help me rest the weight of my life on You. Amen.”

Remember

This week, when doubt, fear, accusation, or uncertainty comes, practice answering it with this simple declaration:

I BELIEVE GOD.

THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE:

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.”
Psalms 18:30 NIV

Read it. Say it. Memorize it. Let God’s Word become part of the way you think and live today. This can be your defense in situations when you need protection.

When the arrows come — I BELIEVE GOD. When I don’t understand — I BELIEVE GOD. When obedience costs me something — I BELIEVE GOD. Jesus has saved me. Jesus is changing me. Jesus has secured my future.
